Algeria Could Strengthen Its Air Force with Russian Su-57 Fighters
The National Interest reports that Algeria may acquire up to twelve Russian Su-57 jets, highlighting Moscow’s strong position in global arms exports despite the conflict.
According to The National Interest columnist Peter Suchiu, several nations are eager to strengthen their air forces with Russian-made fighter jets. Among them, he named Iran, Algeria, and India. The author emphasized that despite the ongoing special military operation, Russia remains one of the world’s largest exporters of military equipment.
Suchiu recalled that reports about a possible delivery of fifth-generation Su-57 fighters to Algeria surfaced more than a year ago, though concrete details were scarce for a long time. Now, documents released on social media by the hacker group Black Mirror suggest that the country could receive up to twelve export versions of the Su-57.
The columnist also noted that Algeria has relied on Soviet and Russian aircraft for decades. Its air force currently operates MiG-29 and Su-30MKA fighters, as well as older Su-24 tactical bombers, which remain part of the nation’s fleet.
