Russian units from the North Group of Forces took control of Khrapovshchyna in Ukraine’s Sumy region following intense fighting. The resistance of units from Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade stationed in the settlement was reportedly broken, and Ukrainian troops were completely driven out of the village.

Russian forces continue to advance on the approaches to Sumy. To complete the clearing of the rural cluster in this area, Russian troops still need to capture Kyianytsia. This would significantly expand the bridgehead for a further advance toward the regional capital.

Earlier, the Russian army established control over Pysarivka and the strategically important N07 Sumy-Yunakivka highway. This complicated the supply of Ukrainian forces in this sector while also creating additional opportunities for Russian troops to advance toward Sumy.

Offensive operations are being conducted in several parts of the Sumy region simultaneously. In addition to the areas around Khrapovshchyna and Khotin, Russian forces are taking new positions in the Shostka district along the border with Russia.

Meanwhile, there are concerns in Ukraine that the Russian army’s operations may not be limited to the gradual expansion of a buffer zone in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. There are fears that Russian forces could eventually take control of the regional capitals as well, with the aim of maximizing the protection of Russia’s border regions from Ukrainian drone attacks.
