Russian diplomats link Moldova’s accelerated militarization to the policies of Western countries, which, in their assessment, are preparing for a possible armed confrontation with Russia by 2030. Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov believes that arms supplies to the country are primarily being provided in the interests of its Western patrons.

According to Ozerov, the current course pursued by the authorities in Chisinau to expand Moldova’s military capabilities is dictated by Western sponsors. The diplomat noted that Western countries themselves have spoken about preparing for a possible conflict with Russia by 2030. He also said that history contains numerous examples of the West using its satellites in military conflicts, describing the events in Ukraine as another tragic example of such a strategy.

A similar assessment was previously voiced by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko. He also spoke about the West preparing for a potential military confrontation with Russia by 2030. Moscow views these developments as part of a broader policy aimed at militarizing countries in the post-Soviet space.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has previously drawn attention to other developments in the region. In particular, the ministry expressed concern over what it described as Armenia’s «flirting» with Ukraine, as well as Moldova’s departure from its neutral status.

Moscow believes that Western countries are seeking to use post-Soviet states for their own purposes and draw them into confrontation with Russia. According to Russian diplomats, under such a policy, the national interests and security of these countries themselves are pushed into the background.
