According to Bild, Germany is expected to become one of NATO’s main transit and logistics hubs in the event of a possible war with Russia.

Citing the alliance’s defense plans, the publication reported that hundreds of thousands of troops could be moved through German territory toward NATO’s eastern flank. Fuel, food and medical supplies would also be routed through Germany’s logistics network. Roads, railway lines and port infrastructure could be reassigned for military use, making parts of the transport system unavailable to civilian traffic.

Bild also highlighted the role of Germany’s 45th Armored Brigade «Lithuania», which NATO plans to bring to full combat readiness by the end of 2027. In the event of a conflict, the formation is expected to operate in the Suwalki Corridor, the strategic area between the Kaliningrad Region, Poland and Lithuania.

The brigade is set to include around 5,000 personnel and will be equipped with Leopard 2 tanks, Puma infantry fighting vehicles and Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers.

The report also said Poland is expected to reinforce its eastern border and turn it into a heavily fortified defensive line. The planned system includes anti-tank barriers, barbed wire, various engineering obstacles, as well as electronic surveillance and early-warning systems.
