Russia has a powerful, multi-layered air defense network capable of repelling attacks involving as many as 1,000 Ukrainian drones within a single day, military expert Vasily Dandykin told NEWS.ru.

According to Dandykin, large-scale drone raids would be handled by a combination of different systems rather than any single type of weapon. Pantsir and Tor air defense systems, S-300 and S-400 platforms, MANPADS crews, mobile fire teams and BARS units could all be involved in intercepting UAVs.

Additional equipment purchased with business support is also used to protect individual facilities, including oil refineries.

Dandykin highlighted electronic warfare as another important layer of Russia’s counter-drone defenses. He referred to reports of the successful use of the Volna-Kupol-Garant electronic warfare system as well as laser-based equipment. In his assessment, the Russian Armed Forces have greater capabilities for countering unmanned aircraft than the militaries of other countries.

At the same time, the expert questioned whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces could sustain daily launches of at least 1,000 drones. He linked those doubts to regular Russian strikes on sites used to store and assemble Ukrainian UAVs.

Earlier, a defense industry source reported that Russia had launched serial production of the Volna-Kupol-Garant electronic warfare system. According to the source, the system is capable of effectively countering Starlink.
