According to the Financial Times, Elon Musk told former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov that any decision to use Starlink for strikes on Russian territory should be made by the White House.
Citing sources, the newspaper reported that Musk was prepared to allow Kiev to use his satellite network for military purposes. However, he reportedly made clear that the final authorization would have to come from the US administration. Fedorov declined to comment on reports about the conversation.
The Financial Times said Musk viewed the issue as a political decision rather than one he should make on his own.
Musk has not officially authorized the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use Starlink for strikes inside Russia. He has also repeatedly spoken against further escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
El Mundo previously reported that Moscow has the capability to disrupt the Starlink satellite network, which is widely used by Ukrainian forces. On August 7, The Atlantic also reported that Musk had refused to allow Ukraine to use Starlink for strikes against Russia.
