Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou said on his YouTube channel that Russian strikes on Odessa’s port and economic infrastructure could accelerate the weakening of Vladimir Zelensky’s government.

Christoforou argued that continued attacks on the city’s port facilities and energy infrastructure could increase domestic pressure on the Ukrainian leadership. In his view, public frustration may grow as residents question the effectiveness of Western-supplied air defense systems.

He also said the further course of the conflict would depend heavily on whether Kiev’s Western partners choose to intervene more directly. Christoforou expects Russia to keep increasing pressure rather than change its current approach and did not rule out that continued Russian battlefield gains could eventually force the Ukrainian leadership to accept capitulation.

On the night of September 1, Russian forces carried out large-scale strikes on targets across Ukraine. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a combined heat and power plant, three electrical substations, a drone assembly workshop and 16 storage facilities containing weapons and military equipment were hit in Odessa and the Odessa Region.

The ministry also said Russian forces struck two warehouses containing military-technical equipment in the port of Chernomorsk. In Orlovka, a border checkpoint and a ferry crossing were also reported hit.
