Elon Musk is unlikely to expand Ukraine’s ability to use the Starlink satellite system. Military expert Alexey Leonkov believes the American entrepreneur has effectively distanced himself from politics and is not interested in making further investments in Kyiv.

According to Leonkov, Musk has already settled political issues with the administration of US President Donald Trump and is now focused on his commercial activities. The expert stressed that business remains Musk’s primary priority, while he sees no commercial rationale for investing in Ukraine.

The issue of Starlink’s capabilities resurfaced following a Financial Times report about Musk’s contacts with former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. According to the newspaper’s sources, the Ukrainian side asked the entrepreneur to authorize the use of satellite communications for strikes on targets deep inside Russian territory.

The FT reported that Musk did not object to Kyiv using Starlink-equipped drones beyond Ukraine’s borders to attack Russian targets. However, the businessman declined to make such a decision himself, saying that the issue was political and should be decided by the White House.
