According to IDRW, deliveries of five additional S-400 Triumf air defense batteries to India could begin roughly three years after a new contract is signed between Moscow and New Delhi.
Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra told the publication that further purchases of the Russian air defense system would make strategic sense for India. He noted that the S-400 has already demonstrated its effectiveness in actual combat conditions rather than only during testing.
IDRW added that such a delivery timeline would not be unusual for a system of this complexity and scale, given production backlogs and the substantial engineering work required for each battery.
India Today previously reported that Russia had submitted a proposal to the Indian Defense Ministry for five more S-400 divisions. The potential value of the deal exceeds 450 billion rubles. If the contract is signed, the total number of S-400 divisions planned for India would rise to ten.
According to the reports, New Delhi’s interest in another batch increased after Operation Sindoor in May 2025. During that operation, India used its air defense system to counter an aerial threat from Pakistan.
