A Russian sniper killed a Ukrainian machine gunner who had remained difficult to detect for about two weeks by using a concealed firing position built into a brick wall.

The episode was described to TASS by a sniper from the 98th Airborne Division of the Dnepr group of forces, using the call sign Kosoy.

According to him, the Ukrainian serviceman repeatedly fired from a building positioned above the Russian troops, but his exact location could not be identified for roughly two weeks.

The machine gunner concealed his position by removing a single brick from the wall before opening fire. He pushed the weapon barrel through the resulting gap and, once the firing stopped, put the brick back into place, making the position extremely difficult to spot.

Kosoy said he waited until the gunner exposed the firing point again and then hit the target from a distance of 495 meters.

The role of Russian snipers in the special military operation has also expanded beyond engaging enemy personnel. The widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles has changed sniper tactics, training requirements, equipment and weapon selection. Experienced marksmen are now also being used to engage aerial targets.
