The Russian submarine Novorossiysk (B-261), equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, surfaced near the coast of Brittany in northwestern France. The information was shared by NATO’s Maritime Command on social media.

According to the alliance, the submarine was forced to surface due to a technical issue. NATO stressed that its forces were closely monitoring the situation in the area and remained ready to ensure security.

The Novorossiysk joined Russia’s permanent naval task force in the Mediterranean in September 2024. The vessel is armed with Kalibr missiles capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.

The incident unfolded amid growing Western accusations against Moscow over alleged hybrid attacks. In recent weeks, several European countries have claimed that Russian aircraft and fighter jets violated their airspace. Moscow has rejected all allegations.
