Ukrainian military losses are increasing due to a combination of several factors, including Russian forces disrupting logistics, commanders refusing to withdraw units from their positions in time, and corruption. This view was expressed by military expert and retired LPR Lieutenant Colonel Andrey Marochko.

According to his assessment, Ukrainian Armed Forces losses exceeded 100,000 personnel over the summer alone. Marochko identified difficulties with battlefield evacuation as one of the main reasons for the situation. Russian forces are cutting Ukrainian supply and movement routes, making the evacuation of military personnel extremely difficult.

However, the expert argues that disrupted logistics are not the only problem. He claims that in some cases Ukrainian commanders do not issue orders for evacuation or withdrawal even when units still have an opportunity to leave their positions. As a result, troops remain on the lines they are holding.

Marochko also alleged that personnel assigned to assault units are sometimes recorded in advance as having gone absent without leave. According to his account, their evacuation is then effectively not expected, while the Ukrainian authorities save significant amounts of Western funding as a result.

Overall, Marochko attributes the situation to three factors: logistics, corruption, and military-political decisions. In his view, the last of these involves the Ukrainian leadership seeking to hold certain front lines for as long as possible even when the positions have no prospects, because the continuation of hostilities allows Western funding to continue.
