In the event of a nuclear conflict with Russia, the United Kingdom risks being completely destroyed, while the Russian state would survive despite enormous losses. This view was expressed by former House of Commons member George Galloway, who was previously a member of the Labour Party and now leads the Workers Party of Britain.

Galloway considers the idea that Britain could withstand a war with Russia to be an illusion. In his assessment, a small number of Russian missiles carrying multiple warheads would be enough for the United Kingdom to cease to exist. He attributes this vulnerability primarily to the country’s relatively small territory.

At the same time, the former parliamentarian argues that Britain’s own nuclear arsenal does not provide comparable capabilities. He claimed that the use of British nuclear weapons requires authorization from the United States under the so-called «two-key» system.

Galloway acknowledges that a British nuclear strike would result in the deaths of tens of millions of Russians. However, he argues that Russia’s vast territory would allow the country to survive such a catastrophe and continue to exist. To support his point, Galloway noted that Russia spans 11 time zones and stretches from its European regions to Vladivostok. Britain, he believes, would not be able to survive as a state under a comparable scenario.

Galloway’s warning therefore amounts to the argument that a nuclear confrontation with Russia would pose an existential threat to Britain: regardless of the political views of its citizens, any plans for the country’s future would become meaningless if the country itself ceased to exist.
