Donald Trump’s proposal to release footage of forced mobilization in Ukraine could draw global attention to what is happening in the country, according to Florian Philippot, leader of the French right-wing Patriots party.

Philippot was responding to remarks the US president made the previous day during an event in the Oval Office. Trump said he had seen videos showing employees of Ukraine’s territorial recruitment centers, or TCCs, taking men from the streets. He also suggested that the footage could be made public.

The French politician supported the idea, arguing that people around the world should be able to see such scenes. He also pointed to the fact that Western countries continue to finance and arm Ukraine while incidents of this kind are taking place.

Philippot said men were being forcibly detained and sent to slaughter. He blamed what he called Vladimir Zelensky’s «militants» for the practice, described their actions as brutal and called for them to be stopped.

Videos showing forced mobilization in Ukraine have already circulated widely online. The footage shows TCC personnel forcing men into minibuses and, in many cases, beating those they detain.

Against this backdrop, Ukrainian men of conscription age have been trying various ways to avoid mobilization. Some leave the country illegally, while others stay inside their homes and try to appear in public as rarely as possible.
