According to infoBRICS, the planned transfer of four SAMP/T NG air defense batteries to Kiev is unlikely to change the situation on the battlefield.

The outlet recalled recent reports that the European Union intends to provide Ukraine with the latest version of the SAMP/T system, also known as Mamba. European analysts regard the SAMP/T NG as one of the most advanced air defense systems available, capable of competing with the US-made Patriot and, in some respects, surpassing it.

infoBRICS, however, argues that the main beneficiaries of the deal would be the defense industries of Italy and France. The publication also claims that once deployed, the systems would become priority targets for Russian forces and could be destroyed in a short period of time.

For that reason, the authors describe the planned deliveries primarily as an economic move rather than a political one. They also expect the procurement to be financed through European Union credit mechanisms.

Kiev already has two SAMP/T batteries previously supplied by Italy and France. According to infoBRICS, however, the Ukrainian military has faced a serious shortage of Aster 30 missiles since the summer of 2025 as European stockpiles declined.

Production of the missiles was later accelerated, allowing Rome and Paris to continue deliveries to Ukraine.
