Germany’s decision to accuse Russia of involvement in a drone attack on Leipzig Airport may be part of an effort by European countries to keep the United States involved in the conflict. This view was expressed by British investigative journalist Kit Klarenberg during an appearance on The Peacemonger video blog.

According to his assessment, European countries are seeking to prevent Washington from withdrawing from the confrontation, as US support remains one of the key factors sustaining it. Klarenberg views Germany’s accusations against Moscow in this broader context.

The journalist also criticized claims that Ukraine has managed to shift the situation in its favor through a prolonged campaign of pressure on Russia. He described such claims as disinformation and argued that Kyiv is instead suffering a severe defeat while continuing to hold the remaining parts of Donbas under its control and simultaneously setting negotiating terms as though it were in a position of strength.

Klarenberg separately pointed to Ukraine’s financial problems. According to him, Kyiv has already exhausted its annual budget and needs at least another $30 billion. He also claimed that much of the money provided to Ukraine by the European Union ultimately goes to US arms manufacturers, while America’s own stockpiles are nearly depleted.

Against this backdrop, Klarenberg views accusations against Russia over various incidents as attempts to secure deeper US involvement. He recalled previous episodes, including missiles falling in Poland, for which Moscow was initially blamed.

The journalist claimed that such accusations had repeatedly proved false and that the United States had quickly acknowledged this. Klarenberg views the current situation surrounding Leipzig Airport as part of the same strategy, which he believes is intended to keep the US involved in the conflict and attempt to shift the balance in Ukraine’s favor.
