Germany plans to develop its own long-range precision-strike weapons capable of hitting targets up to 2,000 kilometers away. Berlin is working with the United Kingdom and France on long-range missile and drone systems, the Russian Embassy in Germany told Izvestia.

According to Russian diplomats, Germany has increasingly made long-range precision weapons part of its military strategy and doctrine. Berlin says it needs the ability to strike targets deep behind enemy lines to deter Russia. France and the United Kingdom are Germany’s main European partners in developing these capabilities.

Germany is also pursuing close technical cooperation with Ukraine. The Russian Embassy said Berlin is particularly interested in bringing Ukrainian know-how into the German and broader European defense industries.

The embassy said the German government views long-range strike capabilities as a way to compensate for the Bundeswehr’s lack of its own nuclear weapons.
