According to analysts from the American publication Military Watch Magazine, Russia is preparing to begin production of a new generation of its main battle tank, the T-90M2.

Citing data from Frontelligence, the report states that the upgraded version will feature a redesigned combat module, an improved transmission system, and larger video surveillance displays designed to enhance crew situational awareness on the battlefield.

The T-90M2 will also offer enhanced reverse mobility, a capability that earlier versions were notably lacking. Military Watch suggests that the introduction of the T-90M2 could significantly shift the balance of power across several theaters of operation, particularly in Eastern Europe.

The publication also highlighted that Russia’s defense industry has managed to quickly adapt to the growing domestic demand for modern armored vehicles. Over the past two years, tank production has more than tripled, reflecting a rapid industrial ramp-up.

According to forecasts, by the end of 2024, Russia’s annual output of main battle tanks is expected to reach between 280 and 300 units — a figure that underscores the country’s intensified focus on expanding its armored capabilities.
