Chinese military personnel have arrived in Russia to take part in international demining exercises. Units of the People’s Liberation Army Ground Force were deployed for the training on September 7, according to China Central Television.

The drills will continue through September 12 and are being held as part of the Expert Working Group of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus.

Military personnel from several countries are involved in the exercises. The training focuses on restoring safety in areas where explosive hazards remain.

Participants are practicing several types of demining operations, including the use of specialized machinery, mine-detection dogs and procedures for neutralizing improvised explosive devices.

The exercises are also intended to give the participating countries an opportunity to exchange practical experience and strengthen their demining capabilities. Another stated goal is to contribute to peace and stability in the region.
