Russian troops from the Center group of forces have established field production of fiber-optic spools for drones. The laboratory can manufacture up to 30 units a day, bringing its monthly output to around 900.

The work is carried out by specialists from the 61st Guards Marine Brigade. The head of the laboratory’s technical unit, known by the call sign Mesyats, told RIA Novosti that the team now handles the entire production process on its own.

The servicemen print and assemble the spool housings before winding optical fiber onto them. The required length depends on the drone model and its technical capabilities. Some UAVs are designed to operate at distances of up to 15 kilometers, while others can work at 30 kilometers or more.

The laboratory also upgrades the drones themselves. Large quadcopters are fitted with digital communications equipment, payload-release mechanisms and systems used to control camera positioning.

Its specialists also manufacture antennas and battery packs, while continuing to work on communications equipment and further modifications for unmanned systems.
