New York could become the venue for another round of negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States, Vladimir Zelensky told the American outlet Axios. The idea is being discussed as Washington tries to bring the parties back to diplomacy.

US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Kiev after holding talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Zelensky, they arrived with a number of fresh proposals aimed at breaking the deadlock in the negotiating process.

Some of the ideas under discussion concern possible steps to reduce tensions ahead of winter and during the colder months. Energy issues are also part of the talks, along with potential arrangements intended to prevent further escalation.

New York could host the next stage of contacts during the UN General Assembly. Zelensky said the city may be used both for further US-Ukrainian discussions and for a possible trilateral meeting involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia.

The Ukrainian politician expects September and October to be used to revive diplomatic contacts before winter arrives. In his view, the next two months could provide an opportunity for the parties to restart the stalled negotiation process.
