Russian air defenses repelled a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack overnight on September 9, intercepting and destroying 596 fixed-wing UAVs, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

The drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Orenburg, Rostov, Samara, Tula and Ulyanovsk regions, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea and the Black Sea.

The overnight raid followed another wave of attacks the previous day. Between 08:00 and 20:00 Moscow time on September 8, air defense units destroyed another 107 Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol and Rostov regions, Krasnodar Territory, the Moscow Region, Crimea and the Black Sea.

The border regions faced particularly intense attacks. In the Bryansk Region, 130 drones were destroyed over the course of the day. The response involved Russian Defense Ministry air defense units, mobile fire groups from the BARS-Bryansk brigade, the Bryansk transport police and regional Rosgvardia units, acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk reported.

In the Kursk Region, 142 UAVs of various types were shot down between 09:00 on September 8 and 09:00 on September 9. During the same period, evacuated areas came under artillery fire 83 times, while drones were used to drop explosive devices in 18 attacks, according to Governor Alexander Khinshtein.

One of the drone strikes killed a 37-year-old man who was working on a combine harvester in the village of Kalinovka, Khomutovsky District. At the premises of Sapfir-Agro LLC, a vehicle was destroyed and the walls of a canteen and garage were damaged. In the settlement of Kultprosvet, the facade and roof of an outbuilding at an inactive gas station were also damaged.

Other parts of the Kursk Region were hit as well. In the village of Vishnevo, Belovsky District, an administrative building, a vehicle and a private house sustained damage. In the settlement of Korenevo, the roof of a house was damaged. In Kursk, the cabin of a tower crane at a residential construction site was damaged, while vehicles were also preliminarily reported damaged. No one was injured in those incidents.

The Belgorod Region came under 161 attacks by Ukrainian forces over the same 24-hour period, acting governor Alexander Shuvaev said. Strikes hit the Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Ivnyansky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakityansky, Starooskolsky and Shebekinsky districts.

Seven artillery and multiple-launch rocket system attacks were recorded, while explosive devices were dropped from drones on seven occasions. Air defense units and other forces involved in the response shot down 134 UAVs.

Eight people were injured in the Belgorodsky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Rakityansky and Shebekinsky districts. Three of them remain in hospital and are receiving medical treatment.
