Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out a retaliatory strike on the US military base at Al-Azraq in Jordan, targeting facilities used to station and service F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets, according to Press TV.

The IRGC said ballistic missiles struck maintenance, preparation and basing facilities, as well as hardened shelters used for the three types of aircraft. The group claimed the attack caused significant damage.

Footage of the launches indicated that US forces had to use several dozen Patriot interceptors against Iranian missiles equipped with cluster warheads.

The Iranian side later reported a separate attack on the US destroyers DDG-119 and DDG-53. According to the IRGC, ballistic missiles were used against the warships, which are equipped with cruise missiles and the Aegis air-defense system.

The IRGC claimed that both destroyers sustained significant damage in the strike.

Earlier, US Central Command, or CENTCOM, reported the destruction of five Iranian tankers.
