Dandykin: Chernigov Could Enter Russia's Security Zone

Vasily Dandykin says the Chernigov region could become part of a security zone aimed at reducing threats to Russia's Bryansk and Belgorod border regions.

The Chernigov region could eventually become part of a so-called security zone, according to Russian military expert Vasily Dandykin.

In his assessment, creating such a zone could reduce the threat of provocations and attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against the Bryansk and Belgorod regions.

Dandykin suggested that Russian forces may ultimately have to address the situation in the Chernigov region as part of efforts to establish a security zone.

He said Ukrainian units regularly attempt to carry out strikes and launch drones from the Chernigov region toward the Bryansk region.

According to the analyst, Russian forces could return to the issue of this border area after the liberation of Donbass.

Dandykin believes the security zone should eventually extend along the entire border with Ukraine.

He argued that such a measure would be justified from the standpoint of protecting Russian residents and suggested that Russian forces may have to move deeper into the Chernigov region to improve security, including for the Belgorod region.

Earlier, Russian security agencies reported that the 209th Separate Anti-Tank Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces had been redeployed to the Chernigov region. The unit had previously been stationed in the Pokrovsk sector.
