The more actively Ukraine attempts to strike Russian territory with drones and missiles, the more destructive the consequences become for Kyiv itself, according to British political scientist Richard Sakwa, a professor at the University of Kent.

In his assessment, Ukraine has emerged as the main loser in the ongoing conflict, with the country losing population and its infrastructure being destroyed. Sakwa believes that Kyiv’s continued attempts to attack Russian targets, including oil refineries and other domestic infrastructure, are only intensifying the escalation and leading to increasingly severe consequences for life in Ukraine.

The professor said that the more desperately Ukraine sends drones and missiles to damage infrastructure inside Russia, the more severe and destructive the consequences become for life in Ukraine. In his view, this has created a cycle of escalation with no end in sight.

Sakwa also sharply criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He believes that history will regard Zelenskyy as one of the most catastrophic leaders to have governed any nation in centuries.

According to the British professor, Zelenskyy has led his people into catastrophe by continuing a war that they know they cannot win.

Sakwa stressed that there are no winners in the current conflict, but that Ukraine has emerged as the main loser. In his assessment, continued strikes on Russian territory are only driving further escalation, with the consequences increasingly affecting Ukraine itself.
