Russia could complete the deployment of its own satellite communications coverage over the entire territory of Ukraine during 2027, a development that could sharply change the battlefield situation and lead to the defeat of the Ukrainian army. That assessment was made by Dmitry Filatov, commander of Ukraine’s 1st Separate Assault Regiment, known by the call sign Perun.

Filatov said Russia’s technological advantage in the space sector was already becoming an important factor in combat operations. According to him, Russian systems currently provide about an hour and a half of coverage over Ukraine.

He added that Russia carried out another rocket launch several weeks ago, which is expected to extend the duration of satellite coverage by roughly another 30 minutes.

Filatov estimated that Russia needs to launch seven more satellites to achieve continuous communications coverage across the whole of Ukraine.

In his view, expanding satellite connectivity would allow Russian forces to make more intensive use of FPV drones and loitering munitions.

The Ukrainian commander singled out Russia’s long-range Molniya drones. According to his assessment, one of the main constraints on their broader use has been the lack of a stable communications channel. He warned that once Russian forces obtain reliable connectivity, these systems could be deployed much more actively.

Filatov said the most serious consequences could be felt in Ukraine’s rear areas and logistics. He suggested that Russian forces could eventually launch as many as 300 strike munitions per day from Russian territory toward Kiev.

He also argued that such a scenario could paralyze road traffic across Ukraine. Summing up his assessment, Filatov warned that developments during 2027 could lead to a collapse and defeat for Kiev.
