Ukrainian drones involved in the attack on Novy Urengoy in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug may have been launched from Kharkov Region, according to military analyst and air defense historian Yuri Knutov.

Knutov said Ukrainian forces could have used FP-1 and FP-2 drones during the strike on Yamal.

According to his assessment, the drones may have been launched from Kharkov Region because of its proximity to the Russian border before following a pre-planned route. He also claimed that the United States and France provide Ukraine with maps showing the locations of Russian air defense systems.

Knutov added that Kiev intends to establish production of unmanned aerial vehicles capable of flying more than 5,000 kilometers in the foreseeable future.

The analyst also pointed to foreign supplies of drone components. He said Western countries continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary parts, while Ukrainian authorities also purchase some components from China.

On September 9, a Ukrainian drone attacked Novy Urengoy. Debris from the aircraft fell on the grounds of a fuel and energy complex facility, causing a fire.

The incident marked the first Ukrainian strike on the Arctic part of the Urals. Novy Urengoy is approximately 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

On the same day, a drone attack warning was issued for the first time in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
