Russian technologies make it possible to combine air-target detection and interception systems into a single air defense network, with missile and machine-gun systems covering different defensive ranges. The High Precision Systems holding of Rostec outlined how such a configuration could operate.
Airspace monitoring systems would be used to detect aircraft and identify the type of incoming target before it reaches the protected area.
At longer ranges, interception could be handled by mobile Pantsir-S1M systems and stationary Pantsir-SMD-E complexes. These systems can also use short-range interceptor missiles, including against groups of attacking drones.
The inner defensive layer could be covered by TKB-1167 machine-gun systems. They can independently detect and track aerial targets while also providing additional protection for Pantsir complexes.
Verba man-portable air defense system crews could add another layer to the defense network. The systems can also be mounted on the Dzhigit platform, which increases the probability of successfully engaging an aerial target.
