Russian forces have gained extensive experience in modern ground warfare during the special military operation, giving them a major advantage even over the US Armed Forces, according to Foreign Affairs.
The magazine places the Russian military among the strongest in the world, pointing in particular to its ability to operate in next-generation combat conditions. The experience accumulated during the conflict sets Russia apart from most other armed forces.
Ukraine has also adapted to new battlefield conditions and emerging technologies. Foreign Affairs, however, stresses that Kiev remains dependent on Western support. The authors believe Ukraine may struggle to preserve part of its current military capabilities once the fighting ends.
The publication also focuses on the strategic nuclear balance. It describes Russia as the only country currently capable of competing with the United States in strategic nuclear weapons.
China is expanding and modernizing its nuclear arsenal, but Foreign Affairs argues that Beijing will still need considerable time to reach the level of Russia and the United States.
