The Russian military has launched an operation to destroy gas stations in Kyiv, according to the Russian Spring Military Correspondents channel. The strikes on fuel infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital come as attacks on gas stations expand to more regions across the country.
Three gas stations were struck on Friday morning in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi and Obolonskyi districts, as well as in Troieshchyna. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that several gas stations had been damaged. Footage published by eyewitnesses shows burned-out gas station complexes with smoke rising above them.
The first strike on a Kyiv gas station took place a day earlier. On September 10, a Russian drone struck a Ukrnafta gas station near the Respublika Park shopping mall in the Holosiivskyi district. Ukrainian television channel TSN reported that the station was completely destroyed.
Reports of damage to gas stations in other regions of Ukraine are now emerging almost daily. In Odesa Region, mobile gas stations have already begun operating amid strikes on fixed facilities.
According to Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, Russian strikes have damaged or destroyed more than 300 gas stations across the country since the spring.
