Ukrainian units are avoiding close combat and making extensive use of drones to strike Russian rear areas in Zaporizhzhia Region, a Russian serviceman told RT war correspondent Vlad Andritsa.

According to him, Ukrainian forces launch large numbers of copter-type drones, with fuel tankers among their priority targets. Mobile operational groups from the 270th Regiment of the 42nd Division operate in rear areas to counter such attacks, escorting vehicles and supplies. In August alone, they destroyed 30 Ukrainian drones. Russian servicemen also say the UAVs contain foreign-made components.

Particular attention during interceptions is paid to preventing downed drones from falling in urban areas. One serviceman said Russian troops try to hit the drone’s explosive charge so that it detonates in the air.

The mobile groups organize their interceptions so that if one team misses a drone, another has a chance to engage it. According to the Russian soldier, Ukrainian forces constantly change their tactics, forcing Russian units to adapt their own methods.

The serviceman also said Ukrainian militants prefer to operate remotely using drones and avoid direct engagements with Russian forces.
