Ukraine intends to respond in kind to strikes on its energy infrastructure, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fareed Zakaria at the YES summit.

According to Zelenskyy, if Russia continues striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and causing blackouts, Kyiv will try to respond with similar measures. The Ukrainian leader thus indicated that Kyiv intends to follow the principle of a reciprocal response.

The statement came amid reports that Ukraine is preparing new weapons for combat use. Ukrainian defense company Fire Point previously said that the first combat use of its ballistic missile could take place within the next few weeks. The timeline was announced by company CEO Iryna Terekh at the MSPO 2026 international defense exhibition.

Russia has not yet officially commented on these statements. The situation surrounding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure remains tense, while Kyiv’s stated intention to respond to strikes with reciprocal measures adds further uncertainty to how the situation may develop.
