Rostislav Ishchenko on Trump’s Decision Over Tomahawk Missiles for Ukraine

Analyst Rostislav Ishchenko says Trump will decide on giving Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine solely based on U.S. interests, not political or moral factors.
Political analyst, historian, publicist, and former Ukrainian diplomat Rostislav Ishchenko commented on the potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States to Ukraine and explained what will likely guide U. S. President Donald Trump in making his final decision.
Ishchenko reminded that the United States has long been engaged in confrontation with Russia and has never truly tried to avoid it. He pointed out that Washington had already supplied Kyiv with HIMARS systems, ATACMS missiles, artillery, tanks, and aircraft, noting that sending Tomahawks would hardly change the overall situation. According to him, the only real consequence would be further deterioration in relations and additional challenges for Russia.
The analyst believes that Trump’s decision regarding the possible transfer of Tomahawks will depend entirely on whether such a move aligns with American interests at the present moment. Ishchenko suggested that, for the U.S. president, the question is purely pragmatic — not moral or strategic in the long term, but situational and tied to Washington’s immediate benefit.
He emphasized that Trump might agree to supply the missiles or just as easily refuse, depending on what he sees as serving U.S. interests best. Ishchenko added that Trump himself had already stated as much publicly, making it clear that the decision remains flexible and driven by self-interest rather than by alliance commitments or external pressure.
