Poor weather is significantly complicating the work of Ukraine’s air defense system, according to Sergey Beskrestnov, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

Beskrestnov said prolonged bad weather is creating more favorable conditions for Russian strikes against rear areas in western Ukraine. He explained that weather conditions directly affect the ability of detection and interception systems to identify airborne targets.

According to the adviser, the extended period of poor weather gives Russian forces an opportunity to attack Ukrainian rear positions in the west.

Beskrestnov added that jet-powered drones are particularly difficult to detect under such conditions. Reduced visibility makes it harder for Ukrainian air defense systems to track these aircraft, lowering the chances of intercepting them in time.

His comments indicate that adverse weather is reducing the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defense operations.
