Military analyst Yuri Podolyaka believes that Russia may form special units from reservists to destroy enemy drones as part of the ongoing military operation. His remarks came in response to proposed amendments to the federal law «On Defense».

According to the analyst, the primary mission of these units would be to protect critical infrastructure and energy facilities that have increasingly become targets of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles.

He noted that the goal is essentially to establish specialized formations responsible for defending such sites and neutralizing enemy UAVs, adding that such measures should have been implemented much earlier. For now, no other uses for the reservists are being considered.

Earlier, the Russian government approved a bill allowing the deployment of reservists in military operations abroad — including in situations involving armed conflicts, counterterrorism missions, or the use of Russian Armed Forces outside the country.
