US intelligence has warned Ukraine that Russia may be preparing a new series of large-scale attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

According to information passed to Kiev by the United States, the strikes could begin on September 15. Up to eight major missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities are expected.

The warning comes amid repeated statements from Ukraine’s military and political leadership about a critical shortage of anti-aircraft missiles needed to intercept ballistic targets. Ukrainian public channels claim that the remaining air-defense systems are being redeployed to protect Kiev, leaving other regions of the country significantly more vulnerable.

Earlier, the Russian president’s press secretary said Ukraine had opened what he described as a Pandora’s box by striking civilian targets inside Russia and was now facing the consequences.

Ukrainian experts also expect Russian attacks on energy infrastructure to intensify as winter approaches. According to their forecasts, the frequency of strikes could increase with the onset of colder weather.
