The drones that targeted Sochi overnight on September 14 may have been launched by Ukrainian forces from southern regions of Ukraine, according to military analyst and retired Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin.

Dandykin said the UAVs could have been launched from the Nikolayev Region or from the part of the Kherson Region that remains under Kiev’s control.

He also said Ukrainian forces have recently adjusted their tactics for using strike drones. Instead of attempting to attack a large number of Russian regions at the same time, they are concentrating their efforts on selected directions. Dandykin linked this change to a shortage of forces and resources needed for larger-scale raids.

The analyst also said Ukrainian forces were attempting to use unmanned surface vehicles and threaten Russia with new missiles, including the Flamingo, while Russian forces were intercepting such weapons.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air-defense systems intercepted and destroyed about 400 Ukrainian drones overnight on September 14.

The Krasnodar Territory was among the regions targeted. The regional operational headquarters reported that falling UAV debris injured five people in Sochi, including a child. One adult was hospitalized, while four other people received outpatient medical treatment.

Three private homes were also damaged.
