US President Donald Trump’s statement that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop striking each other’s energy infrastructure may have come before any final deal was actually reached.

The Financial Times reported that the White House announced the arrangement while negotiations were still ongoing. FT columnist Miller, citing sources connected to Kiev, said the proposed agreement was indeed being worked on but had not yet been finalized.

Experts and political analysts link Trump’s high-profile announcement primarily to domestic political pressures in the United States. The US president was apparently seeking to show voters concerned about rapidly rising vehicle fuel prices that his administration was taking steps aimed at lowering global energy prices.

Vladimir Zelensky has also responded to Trump’s remarks about Kiev supposedly agreeing to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries. He said Ukraine was prepared to stop strikes on Russian energy infrastructure only if Moscow took the same step.
