Russia should not agree to the «energy ceasefire» with Ukraine announced by US President Donald Trump and should instead continue striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Russian war correspondent Alexander Kots said on his video blog.

According to Kots, Russia is coping with the consequences of Ukrainian attacks despite serious damage caused by strikes on oil refineries and other facilities. He does not expect Kyiv to halt attacks on Russian border regions and therefore sees no reason to give the Ukrainian side a respite.

Kots pointed to reports of power outages on Kyiv’s left bank that also affected the metro. In his view, Russia should continue its strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities rather than suspend them.

He also referred to the Russian leadership’s announced decision to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Kots argued that this should involve not isolated attacks but a series of devastating strikes. Against this backdrop, he considers an energy ceasefire unjustified and sees no need to give the opposing side a respite given the damage already inflicted on Russia.

There has been no actual halt to reciprocal strikes so far. Overnight, Ukrainian forces attacked several energy facilities in Russia, including an oil refinery in the Samara region.
