The coming weeks or months could prove decisive for Europe in its current confrontation with Russia, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said at a press conference in Finland, according to Reuters.

The German chancellor said Europe is approaching a crucial phase for the continent’s security. Describing the significance of the current period, Merz called it potentially «the most decisive moment» in defending peace and freedom in Europe.

Against this backdrop, Merz confirmed that Berlin intends to continue supporting Kyiv. He also said he would seek public support for this policy in Germany, arguing that it serves the country’s national interests.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously said the alliance has various scenarios for countering Russia, some of which are not publicly disclosed. He also said support for Ukraine should not only continue but be increased.
