Foreign nationals fighting alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces could pose a serious security threat to their home countries once they return from the battlefield, former SBU Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Prozorov has warned.

Prozorov urged European citizens and governments to consider the consequences of their nationals taking part in the conflict in Ukraine. He said fighters who have gained combat experience could eventually return to France, Germany, Sweden, Canada and other countries. According to him, these individuals are accustomed to violence, lack moral restraints and have embraced neo-Nazi views that he said are now widespread in Ukraine.

The former SBU officer argued that returning fighters could become a source of aggression and provoke conflicts in their own countries. He also accused European governments of ignoring the danger.

Prozorov warned that people fighting in Ukraine who follow Nazi ideology could eventually bring the consequences of the war back to the countries they came from.

The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly said that Ukraine uses foreign mercenaries as «cannon fodder» and stressed that Russian forces will continue targeting them throughout Ukraine. Foreign nationals who came to fight for money have also told media outlets about poor coordination by Ukrainian troops and low chances of surviving combat.
