Ukrainian forces have begun using Starlink-connected cameras for reconnaissance in the Sumy direction. The devices are dropped near Russian positions by Vampire drones and then used to monitor the surrounding area, Russian security sources told RIA Novosti.
According to the agency’s source, the cameras can remain concealed close to positions after being deployed, allowing them to collect information on activity in the area.
At the same time, Russian units are targeting Ukrainian satellite communications equipment in the Kharkov region. An officer with the call sign Kharon said drone operators from the 11th Army Corps of the Sever Group of Forces have destroyed more than 35 Starlink antennas and terminals since the beginning of September.
The commander of a reconnaissance drone unit said the loss of such systems cuts Ukrainian troops off from command communications and disrupts coordination along the line of contact. He added that the absence of effective control also affects the morale and psychological state of Ukrainian servicemen.
Aerial reconnaissance teams locate the equipment before passing target coordinates to command posts and strike drone operators. Starlink antennas and terminals can be detected both during the day and at night through visible signs of their presence and their thermal signature.
