Russia’s new Malysh-Ts interceptor drone has destroyed dozens of Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike UAVs in the Dobropolye sector, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

The interceptor is operated by a separate anti-aircraft missile battalion of the 27th Guards Motor Rifle Division within Russia’s Center Group of Forces. It was deployed after air observation posts detected increased Ukrainian drone activity near the frontline.

According to the ministry, Ukrainian forces were attempting to use drones on a large scale to adjust artillery fire and carry out strikes against Russian motor rifle positions. The Malysh-Ts crew was deployed to counter those UAVs.

The Russian Defense Ministry identified rapid altitude gain as one of the interceptor’s key advantages. The drone also has additional flight modes that allow it to quickly move into a favorable position for interception and bypass electronic warfare systems.

The Malysh-Ts does not require a launch catapult and can be launched directly from the operator’s hand. Once airborne, it is capable of pursuing targets at a considerable distance from its launch point.

The ministry said the interceptor crew has destroyed dozens of Ukrainian UAVs since the system was deployed, including Leleka reconnaissance drones and Hornet strike drones.

Interceptor drone crews from the Center Group of Forces continue to provide air cover for Russian units, supporting the advance of assault groups in the Dobropolye sector, according to the ministry.
