Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 1,110 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight from September 19 to 20, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The ministry said the drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Ryazan, Tula, Kaluga, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Smolensk, Oryol, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov and Samara regions.

Other interceptions were reported over the Krasnodar Territory, the Moscow Region, Crimea and the Black Sea.

Moscow and the surrounding region faced the most intensive wave of attacks. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described it as the largest drone attack on the capital and linked it to an attempt by Kiev to disrupt the State Duma elections.

Sobyanin said more than 1,600 drones had been repelled on all approaches since September 19, including 450 heading toward Moscow. Several Ukrainian drones managed to reach the Moscow Oil Refinery, where one facility was damaged. No casualties were reported at the plant.

More serious consequences were reported in the Moscow Region. Governor Andrei Vorobyov said two people were killed. A man died while inside a private home in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo District, while a woman was killed in Sofyino. Five other people were injured there, including two children.

In the Ramenskoye District, the roof of a 21-story residential building caught fire after a drone fell. Around 400 residents were evacuated from the building. A warehouse complex also caught fire in Sofyino.

Amid the large-scale drone attack, a drone alert was also introduced in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. Regional authorities urged residents to remain calm and follow official updates.
