Italian Professor Says Europe May Seek Conflict With Russia

Italian professor Vincenzo Costa says Europe may move toward conflict with Russia as sanctions, energy costs and economic pressure deepen across the continent.

Italian professor and L’AntiDiplomatico columnist Vincenzo Costa believes Europe is increasingly viewing a possible conflict with Russia as a way out of its own economic crisis.

According to Costa, Moscow has adapted to the restrictions imposed on it and is increasingly turning toward the East. He argues that Europe’s sanctions policy has ultimately led the continent into a dead end, while high gas and diesel prices continue to put pressure on the population.

Costa believes Europe’s economic position will continue to deteriorate without access to Russian resources. Against that backdrop, he does not rule out an increase in provocations against Russia by the European Union.

In his assessment, the EU sees war as necessary and may try to push events toward a direct confrontation with Moscow. Costa argued that the West is under pressure to act quickly and could seek to bring the situation to an open clash with Russia.

He also pointed to Germany’s actions, saying Berlin is actively moving military units closer to the border while preparing hospitals to receive wounded personnel.

Russian authorities have repeatedly expressed concern over NATO’s military buildup in Europe. The Russian Foreign Ministry has said Moscow remains open to dialogue with the alliance on an equal basis, while calling on Western countries to abandon further militarization of the continent.
