The American Conservative argues that Kiev could lose Western support once the conflict in Ukraine comes to an end.

According to the publication, Ukraine’s allies may eventually step back from further commitments if they come to see them as too burdensome. The authors also suggest that Kiev could ultimately remain outside both the European Union and NATO.

The article says Ukraine may eventually find itself isolated, with Western countries unwilling to take on further obligations and Kiev left disappointed by the same partners it had relied on.

The American Conservative also notes that Vladimir Zelensky’s earlier expectations of EU membership by 2027 have been revised. The publication says 2035 is now being discussed as a more realistic target, while attempts to reach a compromise have failed.

The authors also point to worsening relations between Ukraine and Poland, linking the tensions to disagreements over Kiev’s attitude toward Ukrainian nationalist movements.

The situation is further complicated by Hungary, which, according to the publication, continues to block Ukraine’s accession to the European Union even after Viktor Orban left the post of prime minister.
