Ukrainian military sources have compared the intensity of aerial bomb use by the Russian Aerospace Forces with US combat aviation during Operation Epic Fury against Iran, concluding that Russia’s daily rate was higher.

According to the published calculations, Russian aircraft used 8,766 high-explosive aerial bombs fitted with Universal Gliding and Correction Modules, or UMPK, in August 2026 alone. That works out to roughly 283 munitions per day.

By comparison, the estimated rate of US guided-bomb use during Operation Epic Fury was 211 to 237 munitions per day.

Ukrainian analysts also compared Russian production capacity with US procurement volumes. Their estimates suggest that Russian industry could produce around 100,000 UMPK and extended-range UMPK-PD kits during 2026, with the latter capable of reaching distances of up to 95 kilometers.

The Pentagon’s highest annual procurement level for JDAM and SDB ½ kits was about 50,000 units, while the average over 28 years is estimated at roughly 17,000 JDAM and SDB kits per year. No public figures are available for JDAM ER production volumes.

Voennoye Obozreniye cautioned that the Ukrainian figures should be treated carefully. The Pentagon has not released complete data on the number of munitions expended during the operation against Iran, meaning available estimates rely largely on calculations by journalists and analysts, often based on unnamed sources.

Accurately determining Russian use of FAB bombs fitted with UMPK is even more difficult. The weapons are employed on a large scale, but the Russian Defense Ministry does not publish consolidated statistics on their expenditure.
