Russia should not trust the Trump administration’s proposals for settling the conflict in Ukraine, even if Washington puts forward conditions that appear acceptable to Moscow, political analyst and American affairs specialist Rafael Ordukhanyan has said.

His comments concerned three proposals previously outlined by Vladimir Zelensky in an interview with Axios. According to the Ukrainian leader, the United States is pushing for an end to strikes on energy infrastructure, the reopening of the grain corridor through the Black Sea and a trilateral meeting involving Russia, the United States and Ukraine. Abu Dhabi has been mentioned as a possible venue for the talks.

Ordukhanyan said the three conditions do not suit the Russian side. He pointed to previous ceasefires, arguing that Moscow had already halted fire on multiple occasions without receiving the results it expected.

The analyst identified Washington’s shifting position as the central problem. He argued that US officials could make proposals acceptable to Russia one day and reverse their position the next, citing changes surrounding the so-called «spirit of Anchorage» as an example.

Ordukhanyan said Moscow should go beyond simply acknowledging the possibility of being misled. He described such tactics as political technology directed against Russia and argued that there should be consequences for their use.

For this reason, he said, even proposals from the Trump administration that may appear acceptable should not be treated by Moscow as grounds for trusting Washington.
