Russian units operating in the special military operation zone are using the compact Utug electronic warfare system. The equipment has already been deployed in the Volchansk and Kharkov areas, TASS reported, citing Igor Potapov, an official representative of the developer, JSC NPP.

Utug was designed as a lightweight, compact EW solution that is easier to operate in the field than larger and heavier systems. It uses replaceable batteries, while the shape of the device is engineered to reduce strain on the hand during prolonged use.

According to Potapov, the system is intended for narrowly focused tactical missions. One of its roles is countering DJI drones operating on the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz frequencies. Utug can disrupt drones used for payload drops and force enemy reconnaissance UAVs away from the area. Its effective range reaches up to 500 meters.

If operating frequencies change, the system can be adapted by replacing the jamming generators with modules covering the required bands. Potapov explained that the compact design was developed because large EW systems are difficult to use within small groups. Several Utug units can instead be distributed among personnel, with individual devices assigned to different frequency bands.

The developer’s representative also pointed to the system’s high power for equipment of its size. Utug units are supplied directly to servicemen through internal orders.
