A new modification of the jet-powered Geran-5 has appeared under the designation Geran-5 K5. The updated version features a redesigned fuselage and a new trajectory correction system, Voyennyy Osvedomitel (VO) reported, citing statements from the Ukrainian side.

According to the report, the drone is equipped with the Susanin optical correction system. During flight, it compares images of the terrain below with a preloaded map and uses the data to refine its route.

VO said a similar operating principle is used on Russian Kh-101 cruise missiles, which are fitted with the Otblesk-U correction system. The information about the new system installed on the Geran-5 K5 has not been officially confirmed.

The publication noted that the development of the Geran-5 is increasingly bringing the jet-powered platform closer to a full-fledged cruise missile in terms of its capabilities.

Modernization of the Geran family is aimed at increasing both speed and accuracy, including when striking targets protected by Western air defense systems.

Earlier, Sergey Beskrestnov, an adviser to Vladimir Zelensky on the development of defense technologies who uses the call sign Flash, said Ukrainian air defenses were failing to keep pace with the evolution of Russian unmanned systems. According to him, while Kiev develops countermeasures against drones already in service, Russia is introducing new models with different speed and flight characteristics.
